Monochrome

The grey area —Daniel Smith mars black on Arches hot press.

Every once in a while it’s fun to get away from all the seriousness of composition, values, tones, etc. and just see what happens when you play with a single color.

After a full day of tiny detail work on a pine forest I just needed to get away.

Do you do this? What do you do when you just want to escape your more involved works?

  1. This is beautiful. I think it is very important to step away sometimes and switch direction, do something with self imposed constraints. Give the mind a rest or at least change of perspective. I look forward to seeing much more of your beautiful art here. Thank you for the inspiration.

    1. Thank you. What do you do when you need to escape? As a composer you must need to get away from the serious stuff sometimes.

      1. I admire the beauty of your art works, play the guitar for pleasure, switch to a different style or instrument, use a DAW versus notation software.

  2. I will often take photos of plants – trying to notice the small details in nature. This helps me to refocus on what art project I’m working on. I also like to look for future ideas on Pinterest but this can be very addictive! Lol I like your black and white photo! 😃
