Fun with texture and granulation

Being primarily a landscape painter, I love working with granulating paints. You can’t go wrong with Daniel Smith if you want interesting textures and granulation.

This goofy snail was painted with Daniel Smith lunar earth, ultramarine blue and burnt sienna.

I love the strange effects I got when playing around with layering the lunar earth.

I think this would be great for rocks.

Unpredictable but enjoyable.

I think I’m going to add this color to my landscape palette. It might be a keeper.

    So, the paint goes on granulated? It’s not a mix of colors from different tubes?

      Daniel Smith is known for its granulating qualities. Mission Gold has dedicated granulating paints as do other companies, but Daniel Smith is ground very fine, and with certain colours that already granulate naturally that intensity goes up. Nerdy way of saying…uh—yes.
