Whales and other critters

Latest effort

So, obviously me trying to break out of my habit of leaning heavily toward ocean scenes is going well.

I find that when I go to paint, my brain automatically thinks seascapes and beaches. I’m trying to branch out a bit and not become too homogeneous, but with all things ocean being my first love, I’m finding it difficult.

Physically I live in the desert. There are some pretty landscapes here. Sunsets can be fantastic, snowy mountains during winter are often beautiful, but painting wagon wheels and steer skulls aren’t really my thing.

Selling ocean stuff locally is not really the most marketable. Yep. I need to move.

What’s your comfort zone? What do you turn to repeatedly?

  1. Yes, I think the coast is the answer. Beautiful painting.

  2. Surprised ocean stuff doesn’t sell well in desert areas. You’d think people would want art of different landscapes than what’s out their windows.
